The Rescue – A Tribute to San Clemente’s Commitment to Ocean Safety and Lifeguarding Legacy

Our San Clemente Lifeguard & Junior Guard Foundation is proposing to place a beautiful bronze sculpture called “The Rescue” in Parque Del Mar, near the San Clemente Pier. We recently received City Council and Coastal Commission approval and are now underway with fundraising, with a goal of raising $300,000. If you are interested, you can donate by clicking on the Donate button above. Donations of any amount are appreciated.

If you are interested in receiving a presentation on The Rescue, please contact Foundation president, Greg Hulsizer at scljgfoundation@gmail.com or 619.864.2689.

What Is “The Rescue”

The Rescue is a life-size bronze sculpture honoring more than 90 years of ocean safety in San Clemente. Overlooking the San Clemente Pier from Parque Del Mar, this public artwork celebrates the City’s commitment to ocean safety and the courage, dedication, and professionalism of our City’s lifeguards – past, present, and future.

This sculpture captures the iconic moment when a male lifeguard spots a distressed swimmer, and a female lifeguard responds to rescue the swimmer—a timeless symbol of how the City and our lifeguards work diligently to keep beachgoers safe. Installed in this prominent public space, The Rescue will become a gathering place, a landmark, and a reminder of the lifesaving service and tradition that shapes our city.
