On October 28, 2021 Fred Swegles, our longtime City reporter and historian, did an article on the 90th birthday of beach lifeguarding in San Clemente. He tied in our links to the City’s founder’s son Eugene Bunny Hanson and how lifeguarding brought Don and Lois Divel, our City’s Patriarch and Matriarch together. It’s a remarkable story of the early days on the beach in San Clemente.
